Laya Watters grew up near the sea in South Wales and it was here she felt God call her to ordination in the Church of England. It has been a beautiful and unexpected journey ever since, including time on the Church of England Ministry Experience Scheme in East London, before beginning ordination training at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. 6 During her deacon year, she has been delighted to get to do what God has called and created her to do. God has moved powerfully in services and everyday conversations, but extra especially in forging connections with local schools, opening doors to share the good news of Jesus with hundreds of children. She has felt the profound privilege of ministering at baptisms, funerals and weddings, and of journeying with people through the highs and lows of life. Alongside her parish work, Laya has been coleading the Growing Faith Mental Health and Trauma Awareness Network. She has been in awe of all that God is doing nationally in forming a more trauma-informed, compassionate and justice-seeking Church.
